The WP2 team came together in Bonn for face to face presentations and discussions on the 7th and 8th May 2025.

On the afternoon of 7th May,  the topics covered were

  • progress made by the work package members on the assimilation of geostationary satellite data,

  • the development of a new super-observation software,

  • the implementation of the weak constraint 4D-Var for long-lived stratospheric species, and

  • the impact of the assimilation of various ozone sensors on tropospheric ozone was presented and discussed.

The second day focussed on the refinement of the simple chemistry scheme linking Formaldehyde (HCHO) to Isoprene emissions and the progress made with the assimilation of HCHO data using the simple chemistry scheme as well as its tangent linear and adjoint.

This is an important step towards the biogenic inversion system that is being developed in CAMEO. The group also discussed the acquisition of isoprene flux data for evaluation of model fields.

WP2 lead Antje Inness commented on how useful it had been to meet in person:

“Although we meet regularly on-line, it was very important to have the chance to actively discuss the work and results in-person and to plan the work for the final months of the project.”
